There are local accounting standards and internationl accounting standards. Singapore accounting practice and standards are legacy left behind from the British colonial past.

Due the globalisation, knowing and practising just the local standards may not be enough. Companies are expanding oversea and your clients may need more than accounting standards that are applicable to the resident country.

Certified accountants, such as CPA in Singapore, in one country may require to additional qualification, in the form of theory exams or interview - to practise in another country.
